WASHINGTON – According to records filed with the Federal Trade Commission, Amazon.com filed a petition on Wednesday seeking for FTC Chairwoman Lina Khan to recuse herself from antitrust concerns involving the corporation. “Amazon respectfully petitions the Commission for Chair Lina Khan’s recusal from any antitrust investigation, adjudication, litigation, or other proceeding in which Amazon is a subject, target, or defendant for which Chair Khan’s prior public statements create the appearance of her having prejudged facts and/or legal issues relevant to the proceeding,” the company said in its filing. Amazon is being investigated by the agency as part of a larger investigation into Big Tech. It’s also looking at Amazon’s potential acquisition of MGM, the American film company. “While we have the highest regard for FTC Chair Khan, her work for the Open Markets Institute (a longtime Amazon critic), law journal articles, and role as a chief author of the House Judiciary Committee Antitrust Subcommittee report all reflect preconceived views about the company,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) did not respond to a request for comment.
