KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (June 29): The major index of the Bursa Malaysia closed marginally higher in the morning trading session, while gains were limited by losses in banking and consumer products and services counters. The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 0.97 of a point higher at 1,545.68 at 12.30 p.m., up from 1,544.71 at the closing on Monday.
The market’s leading indicator opened 2.32 points lower at 1,542.39 and traded between 1,541.72 and 1,548.64 during the day.
Gainers outnumbered losers 452 to 386 on the broader market, with 434 counters remaining unchanged, 948 untraded, and 67 others halted.
The company sold 2.94 billion units worth RM1.34 billion.
Rakuten Trade said in a statement that it expects the RM150 billion PEMULIH economic stimulus program will have little influence on the market.
As a result, it predicts the index’s performance to be muted today, with a range of 1,540-1,550.
Following minor bargain-hunting activity in selected lower liners and blue chips, the market staged a sluggish rebound, according to an analyst.
The Straits Times Index in Singapore down 0.97 percent to 3,096.47, the Nikkei in Japan fell 0.9 percent to 28,786.29, and the Hang Seng Index in China fell 0.77 percent to 29,043.02.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 0.4 percent, while the S&P 500 climbed 0.2 percent and the Nasdaq gained 1 percent, supported by increases in technology stocks.
Malayan Banking Bhd and Public Bank Bhd both declined one sen to RM8.13 and RM4.14, respectively, while Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd fell five sen to RM8.07 and Tenaga Nasional Bhd fell three sen to RM9.82.
Genting Malaysia Bhd was down four sen to RM2.82, while Genting Bhd was down six sen to RM4.94.
Hartalega Holdings Bhd, on the other hand, increased 16 sen to RM7.46, while Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd and Sime Darby Bhd both rose six sen to RM4.85 and RM2.19, respectively.
Nestcon Bhd, which was recently listed, rose five sen to 33 sen, Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd recovered 1.5 sen to 34 sen, while MMAG Holdings Bhd remained unchanged at 13.5 sen.
The FBM Emas Index jumped 17.49 points to 11,234.83, the FBMT 100 Index rose 15.7 points to 10,953.67, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 47.39 points to 12,294.87 on the index board.
The FBM ACE improved by 107.48 points to 7,103.02, while the FBM 70 improved by 55.39 points to 14,528.62.
The Financial Services Index fell 19.54 points to 15,137.43, while the Industrial Products and Services Index up 0.48 point to 187.43 and the Plantation Index rose 16.39 points to 6,447.42. Continue reading
