HONG KONG — Chinese law firms are expanding beyond the mainland, as a fraught geopolitical environment and slowing global economy force foreign competitors to pare back operations in China.

The trend reflects an increasingly mature Chinese legal industry, whose number of legal professionals and global standing have risen over the past decade. It is also a sign of the headwinds facing international rivals who have traditionally dominated Asia.
