According to a top paediatrician, the number of Indonesian children infected with the coronavirus has nearly tripled since May, with baby mortality from COVID-19 climbing significantly as the country experiences its most severe wave of infections yet. Indonesia has seen a spike in instances this month, with new highs of over 21,807 cases on six days since June 21, including a daily high of over 21,807 cases on Wednesday, putting pressure on the government to tighten regulations. Dr. Aman Pulungan, the director of Indonesia’s paediatric association, said COVID-19-related child mortality increased to 24 last week from 13 the week before, with many children under the age of five.
