Great Wall Motor on Monday posted a 60% month-on-month rise in the sales of its new energy vehicles in May, fueled by growing demand for its Wey and Ora brands, as the Chinese automaker ramps up efforts to bring EVs to market. The company sold 23,755 units in May, 10,616 of which were Ora EVs, which the firm says are geared toward female customers. A further 5,136 of that number were Blue Mountain models, a six-seater, plug-in hybrid SUV under its luxury Wey marque, which only launched in mid-April. Great Wall said that EV sales contributed to 23% of its total sales in May, up from 11% in December. By comparison, rival Geely reported NEV sales of 27,036 units under its Lynk&Co, Zeekr, and other brands in May, while Aion, the EV unit of Toyota’s Chinese partner GAC, sold 45,003 units.
