KUALA LUMPUR (March 30): Heineken Malaysia Bhd switched off its non-essential lights at the Sungei Way Brewery as an act of commitment towards protecting the planet through its Brewing a Better World sustainability strategy.

In a statement, Heineken Malaysia said it switched off the lights from 8.30pm-9.30pm on Saturday, March 27.

The brewer said since 2014, it has cut carbon emissions in production by 15.2%, reduced electricity consumption by 10%, decreased thermal energy consumption by 21% and increased usage of renewable biogas by 90%.

Heineken Malaysia said it has also practised a zero waste to landfill policy since 2017, guaranteeing that all by-product waste from production is recycled.

Heineken Malaysia managing director Roland Bala said the symbolic act carried an important meaning and was a reminder to everyone at Heineken Malaysia to put sustainability at the core of what they do.

“We take pride in the work that has been done to protect water resources, cut emissions, recycle waste, and source sustainability.”

“As a responsible and progressive brewer, we are guided by our purpose to brew a sustainable future for our people, planet and business,” he said.

At 11.33am, Heineken Malaysia dipped 0.54% or 14 sen to RM25.62, valuing it at RM7.74 billion.
