High Court allows MPs, senators to intervene in Bersih's bid to seek Parliament role declaration during emergency

KUALA LUMPUR (April 1): The High Court here today allowed two Members of Parliament (MPs) and three senators to intervene in the legal challenge by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) and six other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to seek the court’s declaration on the roles of the Parliament and judiciary during Malaysia’s state of emergency that is expected to last until Aug 1, 2021.

The five lawmakers comprise two PKR and three PAS members.

The PKR lawmakers are Senator Mohd Yusmadi Mohd Yusoff and Hang Tuah Jaya MP Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, both of whom are intervening as supporters of the NGOs’ legal action.

Meanwhile, the PAS lawmakers comprising Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhil Shaari, Senators Khairil Nizam Khirudin and Mohd Apandi Mohamad are opposing the legal action.
