KUALA LUMPUR, 30 JUNE: According to Health Director-General (DG) Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah’s tweet today, the basic reproduction number (R-naught or R0) for Covid-19 infections statewide has climbed to 1.04 as of June 29. Malaysia’s Covid-19 infections have reversed their downward trend, with 6,000 daily cases expected in the first half of July, according to the Health DG.
If non-compliance persists and R0 rises to 1.2, additional cases could exceed 7,000, according to the current Susceptible-Exposed-Infectious-Removed (SEIR) prediction.
Since June 26, when it was 0.97, the national R0 number has risen to 0.99 on June 27, 1.00 on June 28, and 1.04 yesterday.
Pahang has the highest R0 (1.17), followed by Putrajaya (1.11), Melaka (1.10), Perak (1.09), Kuala Lumpur (1.08), Negeri Sembilan (1.08), and Selangor (1.08), according to the latest data (1.02).
The R0/Rt data estimates the average number of people infected by each new Covid-19 patient. The effective reproduction number is abbreviated as Rt. If the Rt value is less than 1.0, the infection is not spreading.
Malaysia, however, recorded 6,276 new Covid-19 cases today, down from 6,437 the day before. This is the second day in a row that the number of new cases has remained above 6,000.
Selangor remained the worst-affected state, with 2,836 instances reported, up from 2,299 the day before.
644 instances were reported in Negeri Sembilan (down from 700 before), while 625 cases were reported in Kuala Lumpur (down from 1,361 the day before).
Malaysia’s total number of confirmed illnesses has risen to 751,979.
The National Recovery Plan in Malaysia is now in Phase One.
It’s worth noting that the number of daily new Covid-19 cases in the country needs to be below 4,000 in order to move on to Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan.
Furthermore, the public health system should be out of the critical stage, with intensive care unit (ICU) bed use returning to moderate levels and 10% of the population receiving two doses of vaccination. Continue reading
