KUALA LUMPUR, 30 JUNE: Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) is committed to digitising its services, such as encouraging customers to conduct transactions online and upgrading the Air Selangor mobile application, as the globe moves towards digitalisation. Suhaimi Kamaralzaman, the company’s chief executive officer, claimed that the current epidemic has pushed people to adapt to digitalisation, resulting in 590,625 (23.7 percent) of Air Selangor’s customers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya switching to e-bill by December 2020.

This has resulted in a 25% reduction in paper usage for physical bills, from 396,617 kg in 2019 to 297,380 kg in 2020, equating to the saving of 2,620 trees.
“We have a big push to get people online in 2021,” he stated today during a virtual press conference on Air Selangor’s inaugural 2020 sustainability report, “Towards Sustainable Water Management.”
He cited some of the company’s accomplishments in 2020 as a consequence of many sustainability programs, which have had a good influence on the economy, environment, and society.
The inaugural sustainability report, according to Suhaimi, focuses on Air Selangor’s efforts and strategies in maintaining long-term effective and sustainable water supply management and administration for over 8.4 million customers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya.
“In 2020, Air Selangor will issue the Sukuk Muharabah, which would include Islamic Medium Term Financial Notes (IMTN) and Islamic Commercial Papers (ICP) worth RM10 billion for the first time.”
Air Selangor will be able to issue the SRI Sukuk Kelestarian through the Sukuk Murabahah program. In the foreseeable future, Air Selangor (Sukuk Kelestarian) will finance and implement long-term investment projects. This corresponds to our capital investment plans, sustainability policies, and major sustainable development objectives “he stated
According to him, the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) has approved a capital expenditure (CAPEX) of RM5.09 billion for the first operating period, based on Air Selangor’s 30:35 Business Plan, for the implementation of sustainable water supply management strategic plans and initiatives in November 2020, based on Air Selangor’s 30:35 Business Plan.
Air Selangor’s average yearly rate of non-revenue water (NRW) decreased from 29.7 percent in 2019 to 28.53 percent in 2020, exceeding the National Water Services Commission’s target of 29.2 percent (SPAN).
He stated that Air Selangor was committed to lowering the NRW rate to 25% by 2025 and 15% by 2049.
Apart from that, Suhaimi stated that the company’s sales in 2020 increased by 3.62 percent to RM2.18 billion, up from RM2.1 billion the previous year.
Meanwhile, on the need for the government to establish a fund as a means of lowering water bill payment rates, he stated that several factors must be considered first, including the fund’s appropriateness and utility for consumers, particularly those affected by Covid-19, as well as movement control.
Water bill discounts, like the power bill discounts under the National People’s Well-Being and Economic Recovery Package (PEMULIH) and PEMERKASA Plus programmes, are decided by the government, not Air Selangor.
“There is no water fund for us. If the government wants to create a fund, it needs to be examined for what use and what percentage of the discount (to be given), and we submitted the water tariff… If the government wants to create a fund, it needs to be examined for what use and what percentage of the discount (to be given), and we submitted the water tariff “he stated/nRead More
