KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (June 29): At Istana Negara here today, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah granted Senate President Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun an audience.
Senator Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad, Senate Deputy President, and both Deputy Speakers of Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, were also present.
The one-hour meeting, which ended about midday, according to Mohd Rashid, focused on His Majesty’s desire for Parliament to reconvene as soon as feasible.
He stated that attempts were being made to carry out the King’s order.
After the audience, he assured reporters, “InsyaAllah, we shall see you soon [in Parliament], either in a normal or hybrid manner.”
Rais and Azhar said in a joint statement last Friday that a hybrid session of Parliament might take place by the end of August or the first week of September at the latest.
If all legislative issues can be settled before the end of July, a Special Parliament session will be called in early August, just before the sitting.
