BANTING (May 31): Malaysian People Welfare Organisation president T. Sivanesan was arraigned in the Telok Datuk Magistrate’s Court here today on charges of using the Federal coat of arms without permission, as well as a fake lawyer’s letter.

Sivanesan pleaded not guilty after all 16 charges were read before Magistrate Khairul Farhi Yusob.

He was charged with 15 counts of possessing name cards of himself bearing the Federal coat of arms without valid permission under Section 3 (1) (a) of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, punishable under Section 5 of the same Act, which carries a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both, if convicted.

Sivanesan was accused of committing the offence at the Sg Jarom Police Station in Kuala Langat at 10.10am on May 13.

The accused was also charged on one count of using a fake lawyer’s letter under Section 471 of the Penal Code which is punishable under Section 466 of the same Act with imprisonment for up to seven years and a fine, if convicted.

Sivanesan was accused of committing the offence at the management division office of the Kuala Langat District Police Headquarters at 3.30 pm on March 30.

The court allowed Sivanesan bail at RM15,000 for each count of using the Federal coat of arms and RM10,000 for the charge involving document falsification in one surety, and set July 12 for mention.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Amir Saifullah Mohammad Sallehhuddin, while the accused was represented by lawyer P. Vishnuvarman.
