Stocks climbed to new highs. The number of Americans seeking for unemployment benefits last week reached a new historic low, according to weekly data released on Thursday. Initial jobless claims were 364,000 in the week ending June 26, down 51,000 from the previous week’s 415,000 claims, which had been upped from 411,000, according to the Labor Department. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.21% was up 0.2 percent at 34,570, edging in on its record closing high of 34,777.76 set on May 7. The S&P 500 index SPX, +0.31 percent hit a new intraday high of 4,307.93 and was trading up 0.2 percent, on track to set its 35th record of 2021.
