KOTA KINABALU, 29 JUNE: According to Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs), a steering group has been constituted to hasten the collecting of data on the historical contents and legal issues of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). The steering committee, which includes members from the Sabah and Sarawak Affairs Division (BHESS), Sabah Law Society (SLS), and the Institute for Development Studies (IDS) Sabah, will be compiling all historical facts that led to the formation of Malaysia 58 years ago, according to Ongkili in a statement today.
“The steering group will create a syllabus for schools, tertiary students, and the general public on the MA63 and Malaysia’s formation.”
“The curriculum for the target groups will be developed by BHESS and the drawing up team lead by SLS, with input from IDS and the Ministry of Education, as well as representatives of academia,” he stated.
Earlier, Ongkili presided over an online conference with top lawyers from SLS, led by president Roger Chin, and members of the IDS board, led by chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Yaakub Johari.
According to Ongkili, their goal is to generate something that is both legally and academically acceptable, so assisting in the elimination of incorrect or inaccurate interpretation and instead providing a truthful portrayal of events and agreements.
“There has been a lot of confusion around the MA63, and we hope that this syllabus will clear things up.” We want to keep the public from being deceived about the historical agreement’s genuine meaning,” he continued. Continue reading
