1 Minute Read by Reuters Staff (Reuters) – WASHINGTON, June 30 (Reuters) – On Wednesday, the US Treasury announced that it had disbursed more than $13.1 billion in COVID-19 assistance to tribal governments under the American Rescue Plan Act, accounting for almost 65 percent of the $20 billion in tribal appropriations. That achievement, according to the Treasury, triggers the start of a second phase, in which tribal governments will get additional $6.65 billion depending on their employment. The Treasury Department recently announced that all tribal governments will receive a $1 million minimum assistance allocation to aid with their economic recovery. “The minimal allocation will provide a meaningful amount of financing to each tribe to address the pandemic’s effect in each tribal community,” the Treasury said, noting that tribal government functions rely on employment.
