KUALA LUMPUR (March 31): Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has advised Umno ministers to remain in the Cabinet, considering the people’s and national interests.

In a statement today, Muhyiddin said the Umno ministers met him on Monday to seek his advice on their positions in the Cabinet following the decision of the 2020 Umno General Assembly to withdraw its support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

He said at the moment, the government’s priority is to tackle Covid-19, as well as implement the national immunisation programme and carrying out measures for the economic recovery.

Muhyiddin said several ministers from Umno hold key portfolios linked to the government’s primary focus at the time being.

“As such, I do not want their resignations from the Cabinet to adversely affect the government’s measures to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic and efforts for the economic recovery,” he said.

The prime minister gave his assurance that with the consensus, the Cabinet will continue as normal and all government initiatives will be implemented as planned.
