Getty Images | Peacock | NBCUniversal While “The Crown,” “The Mandalorian,” and “WandaVision” all received Emmy nominations on Tuesday, a number of other shows — and actors — did not. Then there were the shows and performers on the ballot that no one anticipated to appear. We’ll have to wait until September to find out who wins the Emmys, but here are some of the most stunning nominations and snubs. If you haven’t already done so, you can see the complete list of Emmy candidates here. “Small Axe” is a snub. The Television Academy gave scant love to Steve McQueen’s critically praised anthology “Small Axe,” which garnered actor John Boyega a Golden Globe earlier this year. Only one nomination was given to the series, which comprises of five films that depict different stories about the lives of West Indian immigrants in London from the 1960s to the 1980s. “Small Axe” is a five-film anthology series that tells different stories about the life of West Indian immigrants in London throughout the 1960s and 1980s. Amazon Video (Amazon Prime Video) “The Boys” is a pleasant surprise. “The Boys,” an Amazon Prime Video original, has finally made it onto the award circuit. The superhero genre show, now in its third season, received five nominations on Tuesday, including best drama series. The series investigates what happens when people with superpowers abuse them. Since its first season in 2019, it has earned positive reviews from critics. In Amazon Prime Video’s “The Boys,” Antony Starr plays The Homelander. Amazon Video (Amazon Prime Video) “Rutherford Falls” is a snub. “Rutherford Falls” may appear to be just another Michael Schur sitcom at first glance, but the Peacock comedy is more than that, with a writer’s room comprised of 50% Native authors. Nathan Rutherford, a man grappling with his family’s (white) heritage in a town populated by people from the imaginary Minishonka Nation, is the protagonist of the series, which premiered in April. The majority of the ensemble is Native, led by Michael Greyeyes as Terry Thomas, the local casino’s manager, and Jana Schmieding as Nathan’s best friend Reagan. Despite receiving mixed reviews from reviewers, Netflix’s “Emily in Paris” made it onto the Golden Globe ballot earlier this year, and it is now up for two Emmy nominations, including one for best comedy. Emily Cooper is played by Lily Collins in Netflix’s “Emily in Paris.” Netflix “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is a snub. The connection between Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in the Marvel series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” didn’t earn either actor an Emmy consideration this year. The Disney+ series, which explored what it meant to be a Black superhero in America, earned Don Cheadle a guest actor nomination as well as several technical nominations. Marvel’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney+ stars Daniel Bruhl, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Emily VanCamp. “Cobra Kai” is a Disney surprise. The Television Academy has previously honoured “Cobra Kai.” It was nominated for outstanding stunt coordination in 2019, but on Tuesday, it was nominated for best comedy series. The Netflix comedy has received positive reviews from reviewers and is one of the most popular shows on the service, with a fourth season on the way. In “Cobra Kai,” William Zabka and Ralph Macchio reprise their roles as Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso, respectively, from “Karate Kid.” “Mythic Quest” is a Netflix snub. Apple TV+’s funny workplace comedy about the crew behind the world’s most popular online multiplayer video game has once again gone unnoticed. Despite receiving positive critical reviews, the series received nominations for best narrator and sound editing but did not make the comedy series vote. Brad is played by Danny Pudi in “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet.” Ewan McGregor’s “Halston” is a pleasant surprise. The film “Halston,” directed by Ryan Murphy and based on the life of the iconic designer, has been panned for being all style and no substance. Nonetheless, it appears that Ewan McGregor’s magnetism in the lead character earned him an Emmy nomination for outstanding actor in a limited series. Netflix’s “Halston” stars Ewan McGregor. NetflixSnub: Pedro Pascal, “The Mandalorian””The Mandalorian” may have had the most Emmy nods (24), but main actor Pedro Pascal was left off the drama series’ best actor vote. Pascal was reportedly overlooked last year because he spends the most of the series wearing his trademark helmet and is supported by two stunt men who alternate wearing the bounty hunter’s costume. Even with the clumsy armor, Pascal puts up a good enough performance to get a nod. On Disney+’s “The Mandalorian,” the Mandalorian and the Child. Disney “Hamilton” is a pleasant surprise. “Hamilton,” a Tony Award-winning production, is without a doubt a masterpiece. However, when the filmed production won 12 Emmys on Tuesday, many people were perplexed. The streaming service Disney+ was allowed to classify “Hamilton” as a prerecorded variety show, which it did for the technical Emmy categories. The Television Academy, however, authorized Disney to submit its actors and actresses under the TV movie banner because there is no longer a variety performer category. In the end, “Hamilton” received seven acting nominations in the lead and supporting categories. “Hamilton” stars Daveed Diggs, Okieriete Onaodowan, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., and Anthony Ramos.
