KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 6): According to the Construction Industry Development Board, 188 of the 810 construction sites operating nationally after the entire lockdown was imposed on June 1 were ordered to close for violating the standard operating procedure (SOP) (CIDB). “Of the 4,208 inspections done on these construction sites, 3,398 were found to be inoperable, while another 810 were deemed to be operational.
“Of the 810 construction sites, 188 (or 23 percent) were found to be in violation of the SOP and were ordered to close, while the remaining 77% were deemed to be in compliance,” it said in a statement today.
Sarawak saw 56 construction sites shut down, followed by 42 in Selangor, 15 in Melaka, 11 each in Sabah, Penang, and Kuala Lumpur, nine in Johor, eight in Negeri Sembilan, six each in Terengganu and Pahang, five in Perak, three in Kedah and Perlis, and two in Kelantan, according to the report.
However, after complying with the SOP, 42 of the construction sites were allowed to resume, according to the report.
To avoid being exposed to strict action, including suspension and/or revocation of the Contractor Registration Certificate, CIDB advised construction sector players to follow the newest SOP, which can be accessed from www.cidb.gov.my./nRead More
