KUALA LUMPUR, 16 JULY: A total of 386,142 students from Malaysia’s public institutions would benefit from the government’s RM185.7 million fee reduction effort to assist individuals affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. In a statement, the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) said the reduction of between 10% and 35% was given in response to a circular issued by the Higher Education Department (JPT) on March 22 to public universities (UA).
“For Malaysian students in the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic session, the fee discount covers service, hostel, convocation, and college events, and will be extended to Malaysian students in the second semester of the 2020/2021 academic session.”
“The fee decrease for the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic session entails an allocation of RM75 million, of which RM20 million comes from an additional government allocation and RM55 million comes from UA’s internal resources,” the statement stated.
The price decrease for the first semester of the 2020/2021 academic year would cost RM70.2 million, while the second semester will cost RM40.5 million, according to MOHE.
MOHE’s action, it claimed, indicated the government’s concern about the financial burdens that students and parents face./nRead More
