KUCHING, A +A (July 1): Sarawak is on the verge of obtaining herd immunity, with around half of the 2,084,000 people eligible for Covid-19 immunization having received their first dose.
In the meantime, 7.5 percent of the state’s population had got the second treatment, according to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“We have met a specific (vaccination) objective as planned, and generally, 50% of those eligible have received the first dosage, so by the end of August, we will have achieved 80%,” he said at a press conference after visiting the vaccine administering center (PPV) at Dewan Majma, here.
Sarawak had a maximum capacity of vaccination 70,000 people each day, according to Abang Johari, but this was contingent on vaccine availability and staff.
Sarawak had requested the single-dose vaccination CanSino from the federal government, which he believes is appropriate for rural and interior populations because they only only one dosage of the vaccine.
Abang Johari also stated that he was not thinking about the state election, which is likely to take place after the emergency period ends, despite the fact that Sarawak has been made a safer environment for its citizens as a result of the vaccination program’s success thus far.
