PARIS, France – From next month, Amazon Prime subscribers in France will be able to watch more than 300 exclusive Ligue 1 Uber Eats soccer matches on the US internet giant’s new channel for 12.99 euros (US$15.34) a month, the company announced on Tuesday. Amazon, which currently broadcasts Premier League soccer matches in the United Kingdom, has been expanding its sports streaming globally, with the launch of its Prime Video Ligue 1 channel marking the company’s first foray into French soccer.
“Prime Video Ligue 1 will exclusively show 8 matches per week of all match-rounds of Ligue 1 Uber Eats per season for three years, beginning August 6,” Amazon stated in a statement.
“We believe it is a reasonable price. It will make soccer more affordable and accessible in terms of both cost and usage “Reuters spoke with Alex Green, Managing Director of Prime Video Sport Europe. Amazon obtained the rights to broadcast around 300 Ligue 1 games per season, or the majority of the competition, last month, marking the company’s largest purchase in sporting rights in Europe to date. Amazon reportedly agreed to pay 259 million euros each season for the rights, according to multiple sources.
