Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service got 25 nominations for the 48th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, trailing Netflix Inc.’s (NASDAQ: NFLX) 65 nominations.
What Happened: After six previous nominations in the craft categories, Apple TV+ got 19 Daytime Emmy Award nominations in the Children’s & Animation and Lifestyle categories.
TV programs like “Long Way Up,” “Ghostwriter,” and “Stillwater” received Apple TV+ nominations. A total of six craft awards were previously nominated for the mystery television series “Ghostwriter” and the animated children’s television series “Stillwater.”
Netflix led the second round of nominations with 65 nominations, outperforming other networks and platforms with nine Daytime Emmy victories in the first round of awards released on Friday.
The streaming service is nominated for four of the five Outstanding Young Adult Series awards, including “Julie and the Phantoms,” a musical dramedy. On Friday, the show had received three prizes.
After winning three awards in craft categories, Netflix’s epic adventure series “The Letter for the King” has been nominated for seven more awards.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will announce the winners of the awards at virtual ceremonies on July 17 and 18, 2021.

Why Does It Matter? The nominees illustrate the growing popularity of subscription video on demand (SVOD) services. SVODs stole the show at the Oscars in April, with Netflix taking home seven honors and Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) taking home five.
In April, Netflix made history by becoming the first SVOD platform to win the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) ensemble award.
Following the closing of cinemas and people being forced to stay at home due to the epidemic, online streaming services have witnessed a boom in demand. Netflix and Walt Disney’s Disney+ each have millions of subscribers throughout the world.
Price Changes: In Monday’s regular trading session, Apple shares closed about 1.3 percent higher at $134.78, while Netflix shares closed 1.1 percent higher at $533.03.
