N’Jeri Eaton, a former Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) Podcasts executive, has announced her departure for Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX).
What happened was this: N’Jeri Eaton announced on Twitter that she will be joining Netflix as the head of podcasting. Eaton stated last week that she would be leaving Apple.
According to Bloomberg, Eaton will oversee Netflix’s podcast lineup, the most of which are tied to the company’s original TV shows and films. She will be a member of the company’s editorial and publishing team, which will report to Bozoma Saint John, Chief Marketing Officer.

Why Does It Matter? Podcasts are mostly used by Netflix to promote its television series and movies. Netflix Podcasts, according to the company’s website, “explore the world of Netflix through audio.”
Podcasts for Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman,” as well as TV shows like “The Crown,” “Stranger Things,” and “The Witcher,” are available on Netflix.
In recent years, as tech corporations have increased their investment in the podcast segment, competition has increased. According to a market projection by eMarketer, Apple is set to lose its top rank for U.S. podcast listenership this year to Spotify Technology S.A. (NYSE: SPOT).
Apple unveiled Apple Podcasts Subscriptions in April, a global marketplace that the company hopes would help it compete with Spotify.
Price Changes: Netflix’s stock dropped over 1% to $530.76 in Thursday’s trading session.
