SYDNEY — Australia has placed nickel on its Critical Minerals List in a bid to provide support for producers of the battery metal that are struggling with a sustained downturn in prices.

Resources Minister Madeleine King announced the decision on Friday, noting six nickel operations had either halted or scaled back their output since the Critical Minerals List was last updated in December.
