KUALA LUMPUR (May 27): Bintai Kinden Corporation Bhd said its subsidiary has received the establishment licence from the Medical Device Authority (MDA) to act as an authorised representative, distributor and importer of medical devices in Malaysia.

With this, Bintai Kinden has inched closer to becoming a full-fledged healthcare group, its executive vice chairman Ibrahim Othman said in a statement.

The group said its subsidiary Bintai Kinden Healthcare Sdn Bhd had last month received the Certificate of Conformity in Good Distribution Practice for Medical Devices (GDPMD) from Medivice Certification Sdn Bhd, an approved certification body of MDA.

“The GDPMD certification will allow the company to act as a local authorised representative for the import, storage and handling, distribution (including transportation) and documentation (including traceability) of medical devices’ warehousing and documentation of medical devices, specifically in hospital hardware and reusable devices,” said Bintai Kinden.

The group had previously announced Bintai Healthcare’s appointment as the exclusive distributor for Greenie Medi Cold Chain Box by SLAB Asia in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines and Indonesia.

“It was also appointed as an authorised distributor for the product in Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam,” the group added.

Greenie Medi Cold Chain Box is a temperature-controlled purpose made box suitable for transporting biologics, vaccines and other medical products which require ultralow temperature.

SLAB Asia is one of the leading cold chain equipment manufacturers in South Korea and operates that country’s only ISTA 7D/7E certified private test lab which offers its customers international recognized quality assurance.

ISTA 7D/7E is a test standard set by the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research under the United States Food and Drug Administration in certifying compatibility and adequacy for transporting medical grade products.

The product, which is tested to meet ISTA 7D/7E requirements, is designed specifically to enable proper storage and distribution of vaccines, including the Covid-19 vaccine, the group said.

Shares of Bintai Kinden rose 1.5 sen or 3.45% to 45 sen today, valuing the group at RM169.90 million.
