NEW DELHI — An Indian spacecraft touched down softly on the moon on Wednesday, making the South Asian country only the fourth to successfully reach the lunar surface.

The landing of the Indian Space Research Organisation’s Chandrayaan-3 — Sanskrit for “moon vehicle” — comes just days after a Russian craft crashed while attempting to land.
