On July 5, South Korean market research agency SNE Research published a report on global EV battery installment trends based on power battery usage data from January to May 2023. According to the report, China’s EV battery manufacturer CATL maintained its position as the world’s largest EV battery supplier, with a market share of 36.3% and an installed capacity of 86.2GWh. BYD secured second place with a market share of 16.1% and a remarkable 107% year-on year growth. The report attributes CATL’s success to the widespread adoption of its batteries in popular vehicle models both domestically and internationally, such as the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, GAC’s Aion Y, Nio’s ET5, and SAIC’s MG Mulan. From January to May 2023, the global cumulative battery usage for registered electric vehicles (EV, PHEV, HEV) reached approximately 237.6GWh, representing a 52.3% year-on-year increase.
