Covid-19 workplace transmissions began today in two new clusters in Sabah, according to state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun. Masidi, a spokeswoman for the Sabah government on Covid-19, said the two clusters in Kota Kinabalu are the Jalan Kayu Madang cluster and the Lorong Berjaya cluster.
According to him, the Jalan Kayu Madang cluster has registered 18 cases of illnesses among employees of a company in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) South here as of today.
“The cluster was discovered on June 30 at the Menggatal Health Clinic, when the index case, a 31-year-old quality control officer, was tested positive for Covid-19 after experiencing fever and loss of senses since June 27.
“A total of 177 samples of close contacts were obtained, and 11 instances were detected in Kota Kinabalu, with seven more cases in Tuaran,” he added in a statement released tonight.
According to him, the Lorong Berjaya cluster involved infections among workers at a commercial location as well as the quarters of a company in Bandaran Berjaya, where nine cases have been discovered so far.

The cluster’s index case is a 25-year-old customer service representative who began experiencing symptoms on June 29 and was found positive in a Covid-19 screening at the Permai Polyclinics Bandaran on June 30.
“As of today, 104 samples of close contacts have been collected, and eight instances have been confirmed as positive,” he stated.
Masidi noted that in both new clusters, the tracing of close relationships and further examination into the source of illnesses is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, Masidi said that Sabah registered 263 new Covid-19 cases today, raising the overall number of cases in the state to 70,720, and that 232 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recovered patients in Sabah to 68,109./nRead More
