REUTERS: On Monday, Dish Network Corp announced that it has signed a multi-year contract with AT&T Inc to make AT&T Inc its major network services partner for its wireless subscribers, for at least $5 billion. AT&T will supply phone, internet, and messaging services to consumers of Dish-owned mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) Boost Mobile, Ting, and Republic Wireless under the terms of the 10-year agreement.
MVNOs do not own networks; instead, they rent capacity from existing operators in order to sell services to their customers.
Dish’s retail wireless customers in the United States will be able to use AT&T’s network for voice and data roaming, according to the firm.
Telecom companies are investing billions in 5G infrastructure to deliver faster internet services and improved coverage, which is in high demand owing to the pandemic-driven shift to remote working and online learning.
According to Dish’s most recent quarterly earnings report, the company has 8.89 million retail cellular subscribers, whereas AT&T has more than 186 million mobile subscribers.
