The world’s richest person isn’t a fan of working from home and wants everyone to know it. During the recent Tesla Inc TSLA third-quarter earnings call, CEO Elon Musk shared his thoughts on work from home once again.
What Happened: The overall cautious tone from the company and Musk has left analysts mixed on what’s in store for Tesla.
During the call, Musk talked about rising interest rates and the affordability of electric vehicles, as shared by Insider.
During his discussion, Musk also began a mini-rant attacking those who work from home, saying they are taking advantage of those who can’t. He also referred to those who work remotely as “detached from reality.”
Musk added that those who wonder why everyone doesn’t work from home give off “Marie Antoinette vibes.”
“Why did I sleep in the factory so many times? Because it mattered.” he said.

Why It’s Important: Musk’s criticism of the work-from-home crowd is nothing new and has been a consistent theme at both Tesla and social media platform Twitter, which he acquired in 2022.
Musk said in May that it was morally wrong for workers at tech companies to enjoy working from home while others had to be physically present to complete their work. He referenced the situation as “work-from-home bulls***.”
“I think that the whole notion of work from home is a bit like the fake Marie Antoinette quote, ‘Let them eat cake.’ It’s not a productivity thing. I think it’s morally wrong,” Musk said.
In June 2022, Musk also commented on a post saying that Tesla employees needed to clock in a minimum of 40 hours per week in person or leave the company.
“Pretend to work somewhere else,” Musk said in response to an email posted online.
Musk is known for being a workaholic. After acquiring Twitter, Musk was tasked with overseeing not only the social media platform but also SpaceX and Tesla.
“My workload went up from about 70 to 80 hours a week to probably 120,” Musk said at the time.
The billionaire entrepreneur is notorious for demanding the most of his workers — many have since been rewarded with stock options, leading to large paydays, while others have left their jobs.
