KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 10): Outside of the areas covered by the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) and surrounded by barbed wire fencing, police will increase their patrols. The step was adopted, according to Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim, to prevent incursion into the villages.
“In Kuala Lumpur, for example, barbed wire has been put in EMCO-controlled areas since it has been proven to be successful in restricting people’ movements.”
However, there have been reports of inhabitants attempting to sneak into and out of EMCO regions.
“As a result, we believe there is a need to increase monitoring outside of areas to prevent such occurrences from happening again,” he said at a press conference after inspecting a roadblock at the Gombak Toll Plaza here today.
He was referring to an incident in which a woman allegedly crawled beneath barbed wire into the Taman Bukit Angkasa people’s housing project, Pantai Dalam here, which is now under the EMCO.
A report on the event was received earlier today, according to Brickfields district police chief ACP Anuar Omar, after a video clip of the act went popular on social media.
The matter is being examined under Section 269 of the Penal Code, which entails a six-month jail sentence or a fine, or both, if convicted, for conducting a careless act likely to transmit infection of any disease harmful to life./nRead More
