KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 2): Following the announcement of Ericsson’s cooperation with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) for the implementation of Malaysia’s 5G network, Ericsson’s president for Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh David Hagerbro, the business’s CEO, stated that the company is determined to delivering on its promises as it prepares to establish the country’s 5G network by the end of the year. “Our long-standing connections across local academics, industry, and with communities demonstrate our commitment to nation building, technical innovation, and the creation of local jobs in Malaysia,” he said on his LinkedIn profile today.
“For us, the real work has just begun, and we plan to live up to the faith placed in us.” “We’re looking forward to continuing to lead Malaysia’s telecoms development,” he added.
DNB stated yesterday that it had hired Ericsson (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to design and develop the national 5G network for RM11 billion instead of the RM15 billion previously budgeted.
The government will not bear this cost because Ericsson has agreed to fund the supply, delivery, and management of the complete 5G network.
Ericsson will design and create a nationwide end-to-end 5G network, which will include the core, radio access and transport network (RAN), operation and business support systems (OSS/BSS), and managed services.
According to Hagerbro, the 5G network will provide customers with better connectivity speeds, ultra-low latency, and more bandwidth, as well as allowing Malaysian entrepreneurs to develop services that will benefit consumers and assist the country’s businesses grow.
“For Ericsson, cooperating with DNB on the rollout of 5G in Malaysia is an honor. According to the government’s MyDIGITAL strategy, this crucial network infrastructure will speed the country’s transformation to an advanced digital economy, closing the digital gap swiftly.
“Having been a part of Malaysia’s ICT evolution since 1965, we are happy that our leading 5G solutions and global experience in establishing 86 live 5G networks to date will be used for the benefit of all Malaysians,” he added.
According to DNB, the 5G network and ecosystem would be available in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Cyberjaya by the end of 2021.
DNB stated it will begin implementing 5G in five major cities and districts in the states of Selangor, Penang, Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak by 2022, and then countrywide by 2023, including 17 cities and rural areas.
