According to comments issued by Italy’s industry minister after a meeting, European Union Industry Commissioner Thierry Breton stated the EU plans to increase chip production to 20% of world supply over the next ten years, up from 10% now. Breton said in May that the EU would invest heavily in expanding semiconductor industry.
