WASHINGTON: Two sources told Reuters that the Biden administration is planning to add at least 10 more Chinese corporations and other entities to its economic blacklist as early as Friday over alleged human rights abuses and high-tech surveillance in Xinjiang. The move comes after the US Commerce Department announced last month that it had added five more Chinese firms to its blacklist as a result of claims of forced labor in Xinjiang.
According to the sources, the new additions to the Commerce Department’s Entity List are part of President Biden’s continued attempts to hold China accountable for human rights crimes.
The exact number of creatures being introduced, as well as their identities, were unknown at the time. Some foreign companies are expected to be added to the blacklist as early as Friday. The White House declined to comment, and a request for comment from the Commerce Department was not immediately returned.
