REUTERS: Ford Motor Co’s U.S. auto sales increased 9.6% to 475,327 units in the second quarter, owing to strong SUV and electric vehicle demand in June, according to the No. 2 U.S. automaker. In June, the business reported a 117 percent increase in electric and hybrid vehicle sales in the United States. In June, sales of Ford-branded SUVs surged by 37%, while sales of Lincoln SUVs increased by 23.33%.
In the first six months of this year, Ford sold 12,975 Mustang Mach-E SUVs. In 2022, Ford plans to release an electric version of its best-selling F-150 pickup truck. Consumers opting for personal transportation during the COVID-19 outbreak are benefiting automakers in the United States. Sales are also being aided by low interest rates and government stimulus. However, due to a global semiconductor scarcity, supply has been limited. “With tight inventories and record turn rates in the second quarter, we’ve been working closely with our dealers to collect retail orders, which have increased 16-fold year over year,” Ford said in a statement.
GM announced on Thursday that third-quarter auto sales in the United States increased to 688,236 vehicles.
