REUTERS: On Tuesday, General Motors announced a US$71 million investment in a new campus in Pasadena, California, to boost its capabilities in advanced technologies such as flying cars and lunar rover vehicles. The complex will be home to GM’s advanced design center, which will work on concept and future mobility initiatives that aren’t part of the company’s current production vehicle programs.
The site, according to GM, would include an innovation lab as well as immersive technological capabilities such as augmented and virtual reality.
The new location is closer to West Coast technology hubs and provides a recruiting opportunity because to its closeness to top colleges and design schools, according to the carmaker.
In January, General Motors unveiled a future flying Cadillac, a self-driving vehicle that takes off and lands vertically, carrying passengers above the streets and through the skies.
The automaker’s commercial van business, BrightDrop, and the lunar rover concept developed with Lockheed Martin are among its other recent inventive developments.
