KUCHING (10 JULY): Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) today voiced its support for Perikatan Nasional (PN), which is led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The GPS chairman, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, stated that this is not the time for politics since it would jeopardize the country’s stability.
After attending the GPS supreme council meeting today, he told reporters, “This is the time for Malaysians to consolidate, unite, and bring the country out of the epidemic crisis.”
The conference was held to address political events at the federal level, according to Abang Johari, Sarawak’s Chief Minister.
On July 7, UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the party, which backs the PN government alongside GPS, was withdrawing and discontinuing its support for Muhyiddin as prime minister with immediate effect in a statement.
GPS is led by the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), whose president is Abang Johari, with the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), and the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) rounding out the ruling coalition in Sarawak (PDP).
