While England celebrated their first major final appearance since 1966, there was growing international outrage over the penalty awarded in extra time for a foul on Raheem Sterling, which gave them a 2-1 win over Denmark in their Euro 2020 semi-final. Some said England’s snobbish views on diving were hypocritical in light of Sterling’s tumble at the lightest of touches, while others said the penalty was too cheap for such a major game.
