KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 6): Due to the implementation of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Selangor, Hartalega Holdings Bhd has shut down all of its glove manufacturing facilities in Bestari Jaya and Sepang. The group made the announcement in a written response to The Edge this evening, just hours after Top Glove Corp Bhd announced the closure of its Klang glove plants.
“Unfortunately, given Hartalega is an important manufacturer of nitrile gloves for hospitals around the world, this will have a substantial impact on both the local and worldwide healthcare value chain in terms of supply disruption,” the firm warned.
Hartalega, on the other hand, did not provide a timetable for the temporary shutdown of its manufacturing facilities.
Following the installation of EMCO in the district, Top Glove announced in a previous email response to The Edge that it is temporarily halting operations of its medical glove factory in Klang.
The world’s largest glove producer stated it is waiting for clarity on the situation from the National Security Council (MKN), but did not explain.
Hartalega’s stock rose five sen, or 0.71 percent, to RM7.06 Thursday, giving the company a market capitalization of RM24.20 billion. The stock has lost 32.63 percent so far this year.
Today, Top Glove closed at RM3.94, down one sen or 0.25 percent, valuing the company at RM32.33 billion. The stock has dropped by 28.36% since the beginning of the year./nRead More
