Harvey Weinstein has been hospitalized for testing after returning to New York City’s Rikers Island jail, according to the Associated Press, days after New York’s Court of Appeals overturned his rape conviction in a shocking reversal.

Weinstein’s attorney Arthur Aidala told AP the former film producer was examined and sent to Bellevue Hospital, going on to say Weinstein is “somewhat of a train wreck health wise.”
Forbes reached out to Aidala’s firm but did not immediately hear back.
New York City Department of Correction spokesperson Frank Dwyer told Forbes in an email Weinstein “remains in custody at Bellevue Hospital.”
Weinstein was being held at Mohawk Correctional Facility in upstate New York, according to AP.

Weinstein was once considered to be one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood, rising to fame as a film producer in the 1990s. Allegations of sexual assault and sexual harassment against Weinstein were published by The New York Times and New Yorker in 2017, which helping kick-start the #MeToo movement. Weinstein was charged in 2018 with rape, sexual assault and predatory sexual assault in New York, charges he pleaded not guilty to. Two years later, in 2020, he was charged in a separate Los Angeles case with rape and sexual assault, which he also pleaded not guilty to. The former film producer was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York on March 11, 2020, and was later handed another 16-year sentence in Los Angeles on Feb. 23, 2023. Weinstein first appealed his New York conviction in April 2021, which was rejected by a judge, but appealed again in January 2023. The New York Court of Appeals overturned Weinstein’s 2020 conviction Thursday morning. The judges overturned the ruling in a 4-3 vote on grounds that the original judge allowed several other women who accused Weinstein of sexual assault to testify—despite not being directly involved with the case. The Los Angeles conviction still stands.
