KUALA LUMPUR (April 23): Heineken has launched its 2030 Brew a Better World strategy, a new set of ambitious commitments aimed at driving a positive impact on the environment, social sustainability and responsible consumption of alcohol.

In a statement yesterday, the Dutch brewer said that as an important part of the company’s EverGreen balanced growth strategy, the 2030 ambitions build on progress made since the Brew a Better World programme was originally launched in 2009.

Heineken chief executive officer (CEO) and chairman of the executive board Dolf van den Brink said the Brew a Better World vision for 2030 raises the bar and enables faster progress towards a net zero, fairer and healthier world.

“Our new commitments are woven into the fabric of our balanced growth strategy EverGreen, putting sustainability and responsibility at the front and centre as we write our next chapter,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Heineken Malaysia Bhd managing director Roland Bala said as a responsible and progressive brewer, Heineken is committed to Brew A Better World.

“On the local front, Heineken Malaysia will be pursuing initiatives that enable us to meet our 2030 global commitments, expanding our use of renewable energy, improving water efficiency, maintaining our achievement in fully balancing water used in our production, advocating responsible consumption, as well as bringing a positive social impact to our communities.”

“We know actions speak louder than words, and that achieving real and lasting change is only possible through collective effort.

“Therefore, the Brew a Better World 2030 is a more holistic plan with clearer focus areas on how we can positively impact Heineken Malaysia’s ecosystem — from our employees, partners and suppliers to local communities, NGOs (non-governmental organisations), the government and other stakeholders,” he said.

Heineken Malaysia was last traded at RM25.10, valuing it at RM7.58 billion.
