This is the story of how my scooter riding life was turned upside down — riding a Boaz Bike around town can make you feel like the Fresh Prince of your city.
I became a die-hard fan of a certain other scooter manufacturer whose name begins with a B after living in a huge downtown for a while and trying every scooter model at the time… and I never believed I’d change my mind. However, after taking a Boaz Bike for a spin, I realized I was mistaken.
Boaz Bikes is now based in Benzinga’s hometown of Detroit, Michigan, and operates an on-demand model in Dallas, Texas, but it is planning to spread throughout the country by the end of 2021, with plans to operate in over ten locations. So, if you don’t live near a Boaz Bikes location yet, keep an eye out since they’ll most likely be coming your way soon.
The First Steps
To get things started, I downloaded the Boaz Bike app from the iOS app store (also available for Android). The download was lightning quick, which could have been due to the wifi, but the program seemed well-optimized in terms of size.
I connected a credit card to the account and put some money into the app’s wallet for convenient bike rentals after a quick signup process. I was met by a map showing a variety of bikes all throughout the city after setting up.
There are a lot of alternatives to pick from:

I saw a collection of bikes outside on the sidewalk, which made finding a bike even easy than I had anticipated.
There are several bicycles available right outside the Benzinga office:

I sat down and hit the streets after using the coupon code “joyride” to get the first 20 minutes of the ride for free.
The devotion to safety and comfort was the first thing that I noticed right away. While the bike had a significant peak speed, acceleration wasn’t too jerky or sluggish, making it feel fairly controlled.
The bike’s design isn’t quite as streamlined as others in terms of visual profile, but with a large cargo basket in the back, no other options come close in terms of usability and utility.
Because it’s a sit-down bike, it feels like it’s missing out on some of the raw thrills that other stand-up scooters offer. For many people, especially those who aren’t used to riding public scooters or motorcycles, this is definitely a good thing.
The suspension system for the seat was one of the most amazing elements while riding. The Boaz felt like the Cadillac of scooters, with incredibly effective struts directly beneath the already plush seat.
Even when riding over brick and cobblestone paths, there were few bumps to be felt at all, and those that were noticeable were mostly felt in the bike’s handlebars and footrest area. This resulted in a fantastic ride that lifted the experience from just transit to enjoyable cruise.
The ride is made more comfortable by the use of large coil springs:

The bike’s quality was also excellent, and it appeared that it would last a long time with no problems. Throughout the bike, there was a lot of attention to detail. Finally, the Boaz Bike experience is a great deal of fun, and the firm has a lot of potential. Additionally, Boaz has raised over $1.1 million in their most recent crowdfunding round, and interested investors can still participate and invest until July 31 at 11 p.m. EST at https://wefunder.com/boaz.bike.
