KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 6): According to the Malaysian Department of Statistics, revenue from e-commerce transactions increased by 30% year on year (y-o-y) in the first quarter of 2021 (1Q21) to RM254.6 billion from RM195.9 billion in the previous quarter (DOSM). Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said in a statement today that e-commerce revenue will increase by 32.7 percent to RM896.4 billion in 2020, compared to 2019.
In comparison to 2017, establishments’ e-commerce revenue increased by 22.8 percent to RM675.4 billion in 2019.
According to Mohd Uzir, e-commerce revenue from the local market segment climbed 21.7 percent to RM591.8 billion in the reference year 2019, while revenue from the overseas market increased 31.9 percent to RM83.5 billion.

Business to business (B2B) e-commerce revenue jumped 13% to RM449.6 billion, while business to consumer (B2C) e-commerce revenue increased 53.3 percent to RM194 billion.
“In the meantime, business to government (B2G) expanded 55.7 percent to RM31.8 billion,” he said.
E-commerce spending increased by 14.8 percent to RM301.5 billion, according to the top statistician.
“The local market expanded 15.3% to RM269.6 billion, while the international market gained 10.8% to RM31.9 billion.”
Meanwhile, B2B e-commerce spending increased 14.1 percent to RM277.6 billion, [while] B2C spending increased 24.6 percent to RM14.8 billion, and B2G spending increased 22.6 percent to RM22.6 billion “”From RM9.1 billion to RM9.1 billion,” Mohd Uzir added.
Following that, Internet usage increased by 11.9 percentage points to 85.2 percent, followed by computers, which increased by 7.3 percentage points to 86.2 percent, and web presence increased by 16.1 percentage points to 53.9 percent.
