iPhone 15’s wireless charging troubles don’t seem to end. GM car owners are now reporting that wireless charging is broken on their iPhone 15.
What Happened: Less than a month after BMW AG BMWYY car owners reported wireless charging issues with Apple Inc.’s AAPL iPhone 15 series, it’s the turn of General Motors Co. GM car owners.
iPhone 15 owners have reported issues with wireless charging in their GM cars on Reddit, Apple, and GM forums.
While support messages show Apple has received the user complaints, in some instances, Apple support has reportedly told users that this is an issue with GM cars, not iPhone 15 or the new iOS updates.
All the latest iOS updates – iOS 17.1, iOS 17.1.1, and the just released iOS 17.2 beta 3 update are affected by this bug. It’s also unclear if all GM car owners are affected or only impacting select models.
However, so far, owners of the Bolt, Silverado, and Sierra are among those who have noticed and reported this issue.

Although some users have been told it’s a GM issue, iPhone 15 wireless charging was reportedly working just fine prior to the new iOS 17.1 and iOS 17.2 beta updates, so something in the new updates has caused this problem.
Why This Matters: This is the second instance of iPhone 15 wireless charging issues, reported in October, affecting BMW car owners.
The BMW issue was far more widespread and problematic–it broke wireless charging, and NFC was also disabled. As a result, iPhone 15 users trying to make wireless payments could not do so.
Although Apple has fixed the BMW issue with an iOS update, the GM issue suggests there is a quality control lapse – either on the iOS side or somewhere in the iPhone 15 manufacturing process.
Given that wireless charging is useful, especially if you use wireless Apple CarPlay, this is a critical bug that Apple must fix quickly.
