Disney+ has surpassed 100 million subscribers in less than a year, making it one of the fastest-growing streaming services of all time.
According to a new report, subscriber growth may be decreasing, with only one movie ranking in the top ten most-streamed films in the first half of 2021.
Growth of Disney+: According to The Information, the expansion of Disney+ is slowing. In the most recent quarter, Walt Disney Co (NYSE: DIS) announced 103.6 million Disney+ subscribers. According to The Information, Disney+ currently has 110 million customers.
While this is an increase over the April figure, the majority of the increases comes from India and Latin America. In the last six months, India’s subscriber base climbed by 12 million to 38 million.
The category for the United States and Canada has an estimated 38 million customers, up from 37 million in February.
Why Does The Discovery-AT&T Deal Pose A Real Threat In The Streaming Wars?
Top Streamed Films in the First Half: Due to demand, movie companies are increasing their efforts to establish their own streaming platforms and releasing fewer films in theaters. AT&T (NYSE: T), which owns Warner Bros. and HBO Max, is one company spending big on this.
According to data from Reelgood, the top two streamed movies in the first half of 2021 by opening weekend share of streaming were “Mortal Kombat” and “Godzilla vs. Kong.” Both films were available on HBO Max.
“The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” and “Those Who Wish Me Dead” were also in the top ten on Reelgood’s list, thanks to HBO Max.
Netflix Inc (NASDAQ: NFLX) has the most titles on the list, with five, including the top two, “Army of the Dead” and “The Woman in the Window.”
Only one Disney title made the list, with “Luca,” which was released in June and ranked sixth with a 4.5 percent opening week share.
Many of Disney’s original series have been successful, while its movies have struggled in the first half of 2021.
