KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 5): According to Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the government has decided for Penang to enter Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (PPN) on Wednesday (July 7). He said a presentation on transitions for states under the PPN was evaluated at a special meeting of the National Security Council (MKN) chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today, which took into account the states’ threshold values.
According to him, the decision to enable Penang to go on to the next phase was made after it met the three primary threshold value indicators, with the average number of daily cases falling below the threshold value of 12.2 instances per 100,000 for seven days.
Aside from that, bed usage in intensive care units is modest, and the “Capacity to Respond” evaluation is satisfactory, while 10.1 percent of the adult population has received a second vaccine dose, which is higher than the threshold figure of 10.0 percent.
“Based on these three indicators and the extensive examination of the agencies, including the Ministry of Health (MOH), the government has consented to implement the transition to the next phase for Penang on July 7,” he said today in a statement on the PPN and the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
Ismail Sabri also asked states that had successfully advanced to PPN Level Two to keep working to safeguard the community from Covid-19 infections and to improve their performance so that they could go on to the next phase and help their economies and social sectors recover faster.
Ismail Sabri said on July 3 that Perlis, Kelantan, Perak, Pahang, and Terengganu would go to Phase Two today.
Meanwhile, he stated that the MKN had decided that during the PPN time, all types of merchandise in grocery stores, convenience stores, supermarkets, and small markets might be offered to customers.
“This is due to a misunderstanding among store owners who shuttered certain of their sections and did not sell their merchandise to clients,” he explained.
Aside from that, he said eateries in Phase One and Phase Two of the PPN could open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., but those in EMCO zones, such as Selangor’s sub-districts and some Kuala Lumpur neighborhoods, could only open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m./nRead More
