Japan defense minister stresses innovation through dual-use tech

TOKYO — Japan will work to encourage new entrants to the defense industry to advance technologies with both defense and civilian applications, aiming to bolster deterrence along with the economy, Defense Minister Minoru Kihara said.

“We’ll make as much use as we can of Japan’s science and technology capabilities, including a wide range of civilian fields,” Kihara said Wednesday in an interview with Nikkei and other media.
