TOKYO — Japan’s first redesigned bank notes since 2004, introducing new portrait subjects and hologram technology to combat counterfeiting, will go into circulation in the first half of July 2024.

Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki revealed the approximate release date during a press conference Wednesday at a Tokyo bank note printing facility.
