Jeff Bezos, Chairman of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), will go onboard Blue Origin’s “New Shepard” spacecraft with an 18-year-old Physics student.
What happened was this: Bezos-backed Oliver Daemen will be Blue Origin’s first paying customer, according to a release.
According to the corporation, Daemen and Wally Funk, who is 82 years old, will be the youngest and oldest astronauts to fly into space on July 20.
According to Blue Origin, Daemen will take the place of an anonymous auction winner who has “decided to fly on a future New Shepard expedition due to scheduling problems.”
Bezos will be accompanied by his brother, Mark Bezos, on the flight.
Why Does It Matter? The person who was supposed to ride with Bezos originally bid $28 million to fly aboard New Shepard.
Daemen’s father, Joes Daemen, is the founder and CEO of the investment firm Somerset Capital Partners.
Sir Richard Branson, who rode onboard Virgin Galactic Holdings Inc’s (NYSE: SPCE) Unity 22 spaceship on July 11, beat Bezos to orbit.
