Jeff Gennette, Macy’s chairman and chief executive officer, will retire next February after a 40-year run at the retailer capped by an effort to lay the groundwork for the department store’s next phase of growth.

Tony Spring, Macy’s executive vice president and Bloomingdale’s chairman and CEO, has been appointed to the role as president and CEO-elect and member of the board. Spring has been in his current role at Macy’s since 2021, and has been with Bloomingdale’s for 35 years.
