KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (July 3): The Malaysian Aerospace Industry Association (MAIA) has urged the government to reconsider and enable the industry and its supply chain to continue operating in order for Malaysia to maintain its position in the global aerospace arena. It claimed that, as a result of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), its members’ manufacturing facilities are closing down, and that any move to curtail these operations would have a long-term negative impact, especially since many are sole source suppliers, with the global aviation industry now starting to recover.
“Shutting down the business will just encourage other countries that aren’t as afflicted to do the same. It would be exceedingly difficult to reclaim once lost, posing a threat to our highly skilled Malaysian workforce “Today, it stated in a statement.
The aerospace sector, it stated, recognizes its duty in adhering to government standard operating procedures as a highly regulated and disciplined industry (SOPs).
MAIA also encourages the deployment of other measures, which it has highlighted on its website and through social media as examples of best practices.
“While MAIA fully recognizes the urgent and vital necessity to restrict the spread of the pandemic,” it wrote, “we believe that the actions implemented do not take into account the highly stringent standards maintained by the aerospace manufacturing industry.”
Aside from that, MAIA stated it conducts regular polls of its members and publishes the results with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) as well as publicly on its social media channels./nRead More
